Workbook updates & your data
How MonetrixOS updates your workbook's structure for new features, why your data is safe, and what to do if an update doesn't finish.

Updates to the add-on are included with your licence. Some new features also need a small change to your workbook's structure — a new column, a new format. That is what a workbook update does.
An update changes the structure of your sheets so new features work. Your transactions, budgets, loans and other data are not touched.
Your workbook has a Sheet version. When the add-on expects a newer one, an update is waiting.
Update automatically is on by default. Pending updates are then applied when someone opens the workbook — most of the time you won't notice anything.
To turn it off, open Settings in the sidebar and, under Workbook update, switch Update automatically to Off. You'll then update by hand.
When an update is waiting, the sidebar's Home screen shows a banner: New features are available, or An update is required if your workbook is too old for the current version of MonetrixOS. Select it to go to Settings.
- Make a backup copy of your workbook: File › Make a copy.
- In Settings, under Workbook update, tick I have made a backup copy of this workbook.
- Select Update now. The button shows Updating….
- When you see Your workbook is now up to date. ✅, you're done.
When there's nothing to apply, Settings shows Your workbook is up to date.
If something goes wrong, Settings shows The update did not finish, followed by the technical reason.
- Your data is intact — nothing was deleted. The workbook stays on the last version that was fully applied.
- Select Try again. The update continues from where it stopped; steps already done aren't repeated.
- If it fails again, a Contact support button appears. Email support@monetrixos.com and include the message you see.
MonetrixOS only has access to the one spreadsheet it runs in — not to your Google Drive — so it can't make a copy for you. That's why it asks you to make one yourself before a manual update.
Your workbook is an ordinary Google Sheets file in your Google account. You can make copies, use Google Sheets' version history (File › Version history) and keep using your data however you like. See Privacy & data.
