Getting started

Setup wizard

The three setup steps — language, currency and calendar; household members and loan lenders; building your workbook.

On this page

After you activate your licence, the sidebar walks you through three short steps. At the end, MonetrixOS builds your whole workbook for you.

If you close the sidebar halfway, nothing is lost: the next time you open it, the wizard continues from the step you were on.

Step 1: Set up your workbook

The first screen, Set up your workbook, asks for four choices. You can change all of them later in Settings.

  • Language — English, French, Spanish or Arabic. The sidebar and your workbook's headings, labels and messages use this language.
  • Currency code — the 3-letter code of your currency, for example USD, EUR or MAD. Each workbook uses one currency, and amounts in the sheet are shown as plain numbers without a currency symbol.
  • Fiscal start month — the month your year starts in. Most people keep January. It decides when yearly and quarterly budget periods start, and it shifts the quarterly, twice-yearly and yearly schedules of recurring items.
  • Start of the week — the day your week starts on, Monday to Sunday.

Select Next. If the currency isn't three letters, you see Enter a valid 3-letter currency code.

Step 2: Members and loan lenders

The second screen, Members & loan lenders, sets up the names used in dropdowns across the workbook.

  • Members — the people in your household. Each transaction, budget, goal and loan can belong to a member (the Owner column). The list starts with Me; rename it or add people with + Add. You need at least one member.
  • Loan lenders — the banks or people you owe money to, used on the Loans tab. This list is optional: leave it empty if you have no loans.

Select Remove next to a name to take it off the list, then select Next.

Step 3: Build your workbook

The last screen, Build your workbook, creates every tab in your chosen language and sets up the automation.

  1. Select Build my workbook.
  2. Wait while the sidebar shows Building your workbook…. This can take a minute — keep the spreadsheet open.
  3. When the build is done, the sidebar opens on the Home screen.

If you see The build failed. Please try again., select Build my workbook again. Trying again is safe, and the choices from steps 1 and 2 are kept.

What you get

Your workbook now has these tabs:

It starts with two example accounts, Main Checking and Savings, and a ready-made list of categories. The workbook also has a few hidden tabs the add-on uses to store its settings and lists — leave those as they are.
