Movements

Recording transfers between your own accounts, so balances stay right without counting as income or spending.

On this page

The 🔄 Movements tab records money you move between your own accounts — from checking to savings, from savings to cash, or paying off a credit card from your checking account.

A transfer takes the amount out of one account and adds it to the other. It is not income or an expense, so it doesn't change your spending totals, your budgets or the Dashboard's profit and loss.

The columns

Column What to enter
Date The date of the transfer.
Description What the transfer is for, for example Move to savings.
From Account The account the money leaves. Choose from the dropdown.
To Account The account the money goes into. Choose from the dropdown. It must be different from From Account.
Amount The amount, as a positive number.

Add a transfer from the sidebar

  1. In the sidebar, select Movements at the bottom. The Transfers screen opens, and so does the Movements tab.
  2. Select + Add transfer.
  3. Fill in Date, Description, From account, To account and the amount.
  4. Select Save.

Both account balances are recalculated. If you choose the same account twice, you see Source and destination accounts must be different.

The Transfers screen also shows how much you moved This month and in All transfers, and your Recent transfers.

You can also type transfers straight into the Movements tab; balances follow automatically.

Saving toward a goal

A transfer can also count toward a savings goal. Put the goal's code in the Description — for example Emergency fund EF-ME — and make sure the transfer goes into (or out of) an account of type Savings. See Savings & Goals.

When to use Transactions instead

  • Money that comes from outside (salary, a gift, a refund) is income: record it on the Transactions tab.
  • Money that leaves you (shopping, bills, a loan repayment) is an expense: record it on the Transactions tab too.
