Recurrings
Rules for payments that repeat — frequency codes, start and end dates, automatic daily posting and Process now.
On this page
The ⏰ Recurrings tab holds rules for money that comes in or goes out on a schedule: your salary, rent, subscriptions, loan repayments. When a rule is due, MonetrixOS adds the transaction to your Transactions tab for you.
| Column | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Description | What repeats, for example Netflix. It becomes the transaction's description. Each rule needs its own description. |
| Sub-category | Choose from the dropdown. It decides whether the transaction is income or an expense. |
| Account | The account the money comes from or goes to. |
| Owner | The household member it belongs to. |
| Amount | The amount of each transaction. |
| Frequency | When it repeats, as a short code. See Frequency codes. |
| Start date | The first day the rule can run. |
| End date | Optional. The rule stops after this date. |
| Last run at (auto) | The last day the rule added a transaction. |
| Next run at (auto) | The next day the rule is due. |
| State | Tick to turn the rule on; untick to pause it. |
Type a short code in Frequency. N is a number, D is a day and M is a month.
| Code | Meaning | Examples |
|---|---|---|
d/N |
Every N days. | d/3 — every 3 days; d/14 — every two weeks |
w/D |
Weekly on weekday D (1 = Monday … 7 = Sunday). Use a range D-D or a list D,D. |
w/1 — every Monday; w/1-5 — weekdays; w/6,7 — weekends |
m/D |
Monthly on day D of the month. | m/1 — the 1st; m/15 — the 15th |
q/D |
Quarterly, on day D of the first month of each quarter. | q/1 — the 1st day of each quarter |
s/D/M |
Twice a year on day D, starting in month M, then six months later. | s/1/1 — 1 January and 1 July |
y/M/D |
Yearly on month M, day D. | y/12/25 — 25 December |
The sidebar shows the same list under Frequency formats. If the code isn't valid, you see Invalid frequency expression.
Every day, at about 3 a.m., MonetrixOS checks your rules. For each rule that is ticked in State, has started, hasn't ended, and is due, it:
- adds a transaction dated that day, with the rule's description, sub-category, account, owner and amount, the note Auto-inserted via recurring rule. and Recurring (auto) set to
Yes; - updates Last run at and moves Next run at to the next date;
- recalculates your account balances.
If a day was missed, the rule runs at the next check. A rule that missed several periods adds one transaction and then continues on schedule — it doesn't add one for every missed period.
A rule whose sub-category no longer exists in your categories is skipped.
See Automation schedule for everything that runs in the background.
You don't have to wait for the daily run. In the sidebar, open Recurring and select Process now to add every transaction that is due today.
- In the sidebar, select More, then Recurring. The Recurrings tab opens too.
- Select + Add rule.
- Fill in Description, Sub-category, Account, Owner, the amount, the frequency, Start date, End date (optional), and tick Enabled.
- Select Save.
Next run at is worked out as soon as you save. The Recurring screen lists your Upcoming rules.
