Using the workbook

Household members & sharing

Adding the people in your household as members, and sharing your workbook with up to 5 people.

On this page

MonetrixOS is made for households. There are two separate things here:

  • Members are names inside your workbook — used to say whose transaction, budget, goal or loan it is.
  • Sharing is giving other people access to the spreadsheet in Google Sheets, so they can open it and use the add-on.

Members

Members fill the Owner dropdowns across the workbook. The Dashboard's Member Detail and the sidebar's Analytics use them to show who spends what.

You add the first members in the setup wizard. To change them later:

  1. In the sidebar, select More, then Members.
  2. Edit a name, add one with + Add member, or select Remove next to one.
  3. Select Save members.

You need at least one member, and each name must be different.

Share the workbook

One licence covers one workbook, shared by up to 5 people — for example, you and your family.

  1. In Google Sheets, select Share at the top right of your workbook.
  2. Add the people's email addresses and give them Editor access, so they can add transactions.
  3. Send the invitation.

Each person then:

  1. Opens the workbook in Google Sheets on a computer.
  2. Installs the add-on in their own Google account, if they haven't already (see Install the add-on).
  3. Opens MonetrixOS › 📊 Open and gives Google permission once (see Google permissions explained).

They don't need a licence key: the workbook is already activated. They see the same data, in the workbook's language.

Members and people are separate

A member doesn't need a Google account, and a person you share with doesn't have to be a member. For example, you can have a member for each child to track their pocket money without sharing the workbook with them.
